Across (right to left)

    Down

Click a square or a clue, then type. Arrow keys move, Space switches across/down, Enter goes to the next clue (Shift+Enter the previous one), Backspace deletes, and Tab leaves the grid.

When on, the letters most often swapped when typing quickly are accepted:

      • ا also counts for أ إ آ ٱ
      • ي also counts for ى ئ
      • و also counts for ؤ
      • ه also counts for ة

Turn it off to require the exact spelling. Either way, the finished grid shows the correct spelling of every answer.

      How to play

      1. Choose a grid size and a difficulty. Changing either starts a new puzzle.
      2. Click a square, or a clue in the list. The clue bar above the grid shows the current clue and how many letters it needs.
      3. Type the answer. Across answers run from right to left, as Arabic is read; down answers run from top to bottom. The cursor moves to the next square by itself.
      4. Press Space (or “Switch direction”) to change between across and down where two answers cross, and Enter to jump to the next unfinished clue.
      5. Stuck? A hint fills in one correct letter; Check marks wrong letters on Medium and Hard; Show solution ends the puzzle and fills in every answer.

Stars reward independence: three for a grid finished with no hints and no checks, one fewer for using Check, and one fewer for each of the first two hints — never fewer than one star for a finished grid.

      Easy, Medium and Hard

The levels differ in how much help you get and in the words they use. A 5×5 grid holds five to seven answers; a 7×7 grid about ten to twelve.

      Spelling: what counts as correct

Answers are written the way a dictionary spells them, without short-vowel marks and without the article ال — so the Nile is نيل, not النيل. By default the grid also accepts the letters people most often swap when typing quickly: ا for أ, إ, آ or ٱ; ي for ى orئ; و for ؤ; and ه for ة. That lets you finish a grid, but it is not treated as the right spelling.

For example, if the answer is قطة (cat) and you type قطه, the square is accepted. When the grid is finished, every square switches to the dictionary spelling, and the answer list points out that you wrote ه where the spelling is ة. Untick “Accept common spelling variants” to require exact spelling from the start.

      Typing Arabic letters

On a phone or tablet, use the Arabic letter pad under the grid. On a computer you can use the same pad, an Arabic keyboard layout you already have, or an ordinary Latin keyboard: each key types the letter at its position on the Arabic 101 layout — K types ن, H types ا, Shift+H types أ, and B types لا in two squares. The touch-typing course teaches those positions.

Arrow keys move around the grid and Backspace deletes. Tab always moves on to the next control, so you can leave the grid at any time.

      Share a puzzle and privacy

Every grid has a puzzle number, kept in the address after the #. Copy the link and a friend opens exactly the same grid, size and level. The link holds only that number — never your answers — and browsers do not send the part after the # to our server.

The puzzle, your letters, the timer and the stars all stay in this browser tab. Nothing is stored on your device or sent anywhere, so your best time lasts only until you leave the page. There is no account and no analytics.

      Common questions

Do I need to read Arabic well?

The clues are in Arabic. Easy uses everyday words with simple clues and starting letters; if you are still learning the alphabet, start with the adaptive letter game.

Is there an English translation of the clues?

Not inside the game — reading the Arabic clue is part of the challenge. The finished grid lists every answer with its clue.

How many different puzzles are there?

Each grid is generated from about 80 words per level, with up to 999,999 puzzle numbers for every size and level, so you will rarely see the same grid twice.
